friendster

i recently came across a good friend of mine's blog. unlike me, he chose to write on his blog things that are closely related to him. things that are personal. nothing wrong with that. it's up to you what you want to write and share with the world.

however, there are some people out there who are critical of what he has to say. well, since he's got a tagboard and all, it make it much more easier for them to comment and criticize.

people are, and always will be, critical. and they simply love to be defined by others. they're all shouting "define me! define me!". just look at friendster. you put in your pictures, your friends and affiliations, your hobbies, your few likes and dislikes, your preference for the future psycho-pseudonym-internet-savvy-sex-predators, and voila~!

most friendster-ers will be checking for new definitions of them on a daily basis. or testimonials as they call it. they'll be asking people to fill it in so that others may deluge, and further condense the already existing information to over-simplify your personality and describe it in a few - hopefully positive - words.

no offence to all. frankly, i almost succumbed to creating an account of my own. and the tempation is still there. it's just human nature to feel loved. to know that someone cares about you. to have a someone that watches you close enough they know how you feel. so close that he/she understands you good enough that he/she can describe you in a few words. to be defined. to be testified.

having said that, i firmly believe that no one likes to be over-simplified. say too much abt someone, and you'll be on wrath's receiving end. say that he's sensitive, that's a compliment. say that he's over-sensitive, *click*. you're instantly deleted from his personal network.

however, since little friendster world very much mimics our real world, you can't really say all the bad attributes in the testimonial. since your definition of your friend will be made public for almost anyone to see, you also have to appear generous and benevolent. say some bad things, and cover it up with a lot of glad tidings. through the few words you say abt others, a lot more can be understood, or misunderstood from you.

as for me, i'm still hanging by a steel thread. the dark side is really appealing, but i'll put it off for now. it's like the real world. where i live, everyone's already judging everyone.

the world's already in this uncontrollable centrifugal spin, thanks to stupid president judging stupid tyrant about having stupid weapons. stupid senile judging he's the best there is and kills everyone that opposes him. stupid companies raising fares because they think that those scraping off the streets can afford it. it's a living hell.

i don't need a virtual replica to remind me of it.

cheers?
